Google's Newest: An AI Tool That Can Write News Articles

Google has entered testing phase for one of its newest AI, Genesis.

Reportedly, this will help journalists all around the world with their work and has already been pitched to some of the largest publications in the world like The New York Times, Insider, and Gannett.

A bold move, given the recent mishap that happened with the Irish Times where an opinion article, partially-written by ChatGPT was found to be a hoax.

People who saw the pitch were not happy citing various concerns. Among them, the biggest is the audacity of the idea of an AI replacement, saying that Google doesn't understand the delicateness and intricacy needed for journalism work.

Google was quick to defend saying that it wasn't the intent behind their newest venture.

“Quite simply these tools are not intended to, and cannot, replace the essential role journalists have in reporting, creating, and fact-checking their articles,” they said.

They further stated that it's all about productivity and providing journalists with writing options.

“For instance, AI-enabled tools could assist journalists with options for headlines or different writing styles,” the spokesperson added.

Another concern, and has always been across different industries is that AI will begin replacing actual humans in the workplace.

The Guardian reported that last month, Europe's best-selling newspaper, Germany's Bild tabloid, laid off 200 people and warned about further cuts due to opportunities of artificial intelligence.
