About

AI Roguelite is a text-based role-playing game that is entirely generated by artificial intelligence. It features a truly infinite world, where every location, NPC, enemy, item, crafting recipe, and game mechanic is 100% determined by AI. This means that each playthrough is unique, and no two players will have the same experience.

The game’s AI-generated entities include weapons, enemies, and environments, all of which are determined by the GPT text generation AI. Crafting recipes are also AI-generated, and players must combine different items to create new ones. Combat is also AI-generated, with attacks and outcomes determined by the AI-generated names and descriptions of the items used in combat, as well as the player’s attribute roll check, which is also AI-determined.

AI Roguelite also features AI-generated illustrations for each entity in the game, using Stable Diffusion technology. Players can use their own GPU or cloud services to generate these illustrations.

The game has an active community on Discord, Reddit, Facebook, and Twitter, where players can discuss and share their experiences. The system requirements for AI Roguelite are relatively modest, with a minimum of 4GB of RAM and 20GB of available storage, and recommended specifications of 16GB of RAM, an NVIDIA GPU with 8GB of VRAM, or an in-game cloud services subscription, and a broadband internet connection.

Pricing

The AI Roguelite game is currently on sale for a limited time, with a 20% discount. The original price is $4.99, but during the promotion, it costs $3.99 USD. Additionally, there is one DLC available for purchase, the AI Roguelite Main Theme (OST), also with a 20% discount, priced at $1.51 USD. Customers can add both the game and the DLC to their cart for a total of $5.50 USD.

Features

  • AI-Generated Entities

What weapons might you find in an underwater city? Which enemies might you find? Where else can you go from there?

All these questions are answered by a GPT text generation AI, so you can explore a truly infinite world.

  • AI-Generated Crafting Recipes

What item could you make if combining a wooden stick with a rock? What about a computer chip with a zombie brain?

The AI decides which item should be produced, based on the names of the ingredients.

  • AI-Generated Combat

What happens when you try to attack a “terminator robot” with a “raw salmon”? There are no traditional item stats. Instead, whether an attack is successful depends entirely on its AI-generated name and description, as well as your attribute roll check (which is also AI-determined). The AI then generates a plausible story for what happens when you use it against the enemy. Finally, the AI is fed its own story, from which it tries to figure out whether the enemy was killed, injured, or unharmed.

  • AI-Generated Illustrations

Every entity gets an illustration generated by Stable Diffusion technology using either your GPU or the cloud.

It needs more refinement particularly on the game element side

I think the concept in terms of what AI Roguelite does is spot on, However I think it needs more refinement particularly on the game element side over time to really reach it’s full potential. In the current state of the game, how you progress in the game can be very random at points, which can be very frustrating if you were expecting more of a player selected path. I would like to say that I used the basic free text and wombat for images aka the free stuff right out of the box and all I paid for was this game. Although, with that being said, I still was impressed and do realize I would have gotten better results for text and images if I was using Novel AI.

However, with that being said, I did end up doing two game sessions in which I had some pretty interesting and funny results. The first session I did was the Battle of Gettysburg with Cyborgs and I was really impressed on how accurate the AI got this in terms of the images I got as well as the text that was provided. In addition to this, It was interesting having a Cyborg Union General as an Alley and fighting Cyborg Confederates.

Now the second game session, I told the AI that I was a short mushroom man with a red cape and a broken leg and man the AI 100% generated me in looking like that and on top of that I said I was in Wonderland. In which the AI went ahead and selected wonderland from Alice in Wonderland. Now what was funny about this play through is that I ended up getting a quest in this session that I needed to find Alice in reunite her with the white rabbit. In which I ended up doing. So there are quests and game play mechanics that do actually work here.

The problem is your game sessions can be very random at times completely taking you away from your quest mechanics and sending the story or the RPG in a completely random encounter or encounters which you don’t have control over which seems more like a dream state.

Regardless, I had a lot of fun with this and I’m impressed that Max Loh was able to make the “World’s first RPG in which all entities are AI-generated and all game mechanics are AI-detected”. I look forward to him refining this project and I look forward to checking this out again the future. Overall, where the current game stands. I give it a 7/10.

First things first, this fundamentally is not a game like Skyrim or other RPGs you might be hoping this is. This is not some hyper open ended version of such traditional RPG games; instead this is a AI assisted story telling tool which carries a load of positives and negatives depending on what your looking for.

To put what this is into perspective. Imagine you are playing a traditional table top RPG with a friend, but you are both the DM and your friend has schizophrenia. Sometimes you are able to write and play an extremely compelling story other times the experience is fundamentally nonsense as characters randomly die instantly, settings completely fall apart, and NPCs are invented like they are guest stars on a 90s sitcom. 90% it will be a mix of both and depending on what your tolerances are for that such information is a deal breaker or deal maker.

If you like weird jank that will pretty much always surprise you you are in.

If you like the idea that at any second the story could go haywire for good or bad then you are in.

If you understand the fundamental flaws, limitations, and positives and negatives to AI trying to tell a limitless story then you are in.

An amazing new concept for an rpg/storytelling....

An amazing new concept for an rpg/storytelling. Still experimental atm but being actively developed, and the dev responds to questions very quick. Sure turns lag, but since its generating text and multiple images its understandable. There is alot of randomness, however that can be quite funny and entertaining as well.

Id recommend it for AI enthusiasts, RPG fans who want play around with weird settiings, convoersations for fun or inspiration and people who enjoy weird random games in general. The better your processor (with lots of vram) the quicker the load times will be, and the more AI options you will have for generating content.
